How to use: Add to your favourite serum, mask or moisturizer, or apply directly to affected areas twice a day.

The perfect complement: Using niacinamide is as easy as finding great skin care products that contain it along with other beneficial ingredients like antioxidants, skin-restoring agents, and other skin-replenishing ingredients.

This multi-ingredient approach to skin care is important because as great as niacinamide is for skin, it’s not the only ingredient skin needs to look and feel its best.

For best results, use leave-on niacinamide products and apply them to cleansed skin twice daily. The +niacinamide concentrate can be used on its own (much like a serum) or mixed into your favorite serum, moisturizer or mask, based on personal preference. Mix and match this concentrate with your other skoah concentrates to find your perfect combination - and it’s safe to mix with your +retinol concentrate as well!

You can use the +niacinamide concentrate around your eyes, too. Some might find applying a moisturizer or eye cream with some +niacinamide helps improve the look of under eye circles, helps soften the appearance of crow’s feet, not to mention enables this delicate area to retain skin-smoothing moisture and resist loss of firmness.

What is niacinamide? Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide is a very effective skin-restoring ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging and blemish-prone skin.

First and foremost, niacinamide increases your skin’s immunity, by helping to build keratin - a type of protein that keeps your skin firm and healthy. Additionally, this helps to protect against oxidative stress by building cells in the skin while also protecting them from environmental stresses, such as sunlight, pollution, and toxins.

Niacinamide also can help your skin grow a ceramide (lipid) barrier which can, in turn, helps retain moisture. This is beneficial for all skin types, especially if you have eczema or mature skin.

Among these benefits is the ability to visibly improve the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, dullness, and a weakened skin surface.

Niacinamide can also mitigate and to some extent help visibly repair damage from UV light and offset other sources of environmental attack, including the negative impact of various types of airborne pollutants.

Unlike many beneficial ingredients, niacinamide is stable in the presence of heat and light.

How does niacinamide work? Niacinamide supports the skin barrier (the outer surface of skin), increases its resiliency, and improves texture by making pores look smaller. It also helps balance oil production, and—bonus! —it's good for all skin types.

Niacinamide is a water-soluble vitamin that works with the natural substances in your skin to help visibly minimize enlarged pores, tighten lax pores, improve uneven skin tone, soften fine lines and wrinkles, diminish dullness, and strengthen a weakened surface.

Niacinamide also reduces the impact of environmental damage because of its ability to improve skin’s barrier (its first line of defense), plus it also plays a role in helping skin to repair signs of past damage. Left unchecked, this type of daily assault makes skin appear older, dull, and less radiant.

How does niacinamide help pores? Great question, although the answer here isn’t certain. Simply put, research hasn’t come to a full understanding about how this B vitamin works its pore-reducing magic, but it does!

It seems that niacinamide has a normalizing ability on the pore lining, and that this influence plays a role in keeping debris from getting backed up, which leads to clogs and rough, bumpy skin. As the clog forms and worsens, the pores stretch to compensate, and what you’ll see is enlarged pores. By helping things get back to normal, niacinamide use helps pores return to their normal size.

Sun damage can also cause pores to become stretched, too, leading to what some describe as "orange peel skin". Higher concentrations of niacinamide can help visibly tighten pores by shoring up skin’s supportive elements.

How does niacinamide help hyperpigmentation?Hyperpigmentation is the combination of discolouration and uneven skin tone.

Both of these concerns stem from excess melanin (skin pigment) showing on the skin's surface.

Niacinamide helps break up existing hyperpigmentation so your skin tone looks more even. It can be used with other discoloration-reducing ingredients such as all forms of vitamin C, and retinol.

Benefits of using niacinamide: Niacinamide is uniquely compatible with any of the products in your skin care routine, including those that contain retinol, peptides, hyaluronic acid, AHAs, BHA, vitamin C, and all types of antioxidants.

You can use multiple niacinamide-containing products in your routine, and it will still be non-sensitizing as this ingenious B vitamin is well tolerated by all skin types. It’s even suitable for use by those with sensitive or rosacea-prone skin.

Other helpful benefits of niacinamide are that it helps renew and restore the surface of skin against moisture loss and dehydration by helping skin improve its natural production of skin-strengthening ceramides. When ceramides become depleted over time, skin is left vulnerable to all sorts of problems, from persistent patches of dry, flaky skin to increasingly becoming extra-sensitive.

If you struggle with dry skin, topical application of niacinamide has been shown to boost the hydrating ability of moisturizers so skin’s surface can better resist the moisture loss that leads to recurrent dry, tight, flaky skin. Niacinamide works brilliantly with common moisturizer ingredients like glycerin, non-fragrant plant oils, cholesterol, sodium PCA, and sodium hyaluronate.

Mix & Match with other skoah concentrates:

+retinol - to increase cell turnover and reduce signs of aging and makes retinol less sensitizing.

Niacinamide is a gentle skin care ingredient that helps diminish the signs of aging, discoloration, and blemishes. Retinol has similar benefits, but it’s stronger than niacinamide. It’s also known to cause irritation, redness, and dry skin (even though skoah's is formulate with sensitive skin in mind!). Pairing the two ingredients is safe and can make retinol easier to use. Niacinamide helps hydrate the skin, which reduces the risk of irritation caused by retinol.

+copper peptide - to promote healing and strengthening of your skin

Niacinamide decreases the production of excess sebum in the skin, while copper peptide helps heal and reduce irritation and inflammation. Combined the two are great for acneic skin to combat active breakouts and health them.

+vitamin c - to brighten the skin and reduce hyperpigmentation

On its own, niacinamide is a skin-restoring ingredient that can visibly improve the appearance of enlarged pores, fine lines, and dull skin. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that defends skin against environmental assault, as well as a brightening agent that can improve the visible signs of aging. Together, these ingredients form a powerhouse combo that addresses uneven skin tone, wrinkles, loss of firmness, and dullness. All skin types will see a complexion that progressively becomes more radiant, smoother, more even, and noticeably younger-looking.

+hyaluronic acid - to supercharge skin hydration and boost collagen and elastin production

Niacinamides' hydrating effects are down to the fact that it increases the levels of ceramides, fatty acids, and cholesterol in your stratum corneum, while hyaluronic acid regulates the water that comes in and out of your skin cells. Pairing niacinamide and hyaluronic acid together mean that you are tackling your skin’s hydration from both angles! In addition, niacinamide helps to boost collagen production while hyaluronic acid improves elasticity so combining the two together can help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
