This facial should not be done more than 4 times a year. Glycolic acid occurs naturally in citrus fruits, apples and grapes. In this treatment we use a much higher percentage than in a product you would use at home. It is great for dull looking skin and to create a vibrant, refreshed glow. It also helps with hyperpigmentation. Waiver signature required prior to treatment.
What does it do?
It removes the outer, dead layers of the epidermis. This improves the texture of the skin, helps fade hyperpigmentation, reduces the signs of aging, brightens the skin, helps reduce the appearance of scarring and gives a super smooth finish. It also helps decongest pores.
How often can I do a peel?
We recommend about once every 3 months. In between you should have either a power or a facialiscious to maintain clear, smooth skin, continue regular exfoliation and monitor skin conditions. Doing peels more often does not net better results. Instead, it can increase sensitivity, cause peeling and irritation and make skin feel hard (due to keratinization - skin hardens to protect itself).
What are the risks and warnings?
Skin can become over sensitized. As such, it isn’t recommended for pregnant, breastfeeding, sensitive, broken or retin A users (including accutane). Waxing should NOT be performed a few days prior and after a few days.
What can I expect after the treatment?
Skin may feel slightly sensitive or irritated after. It may also look slightly ink or red. The AHA continues to work in the epidermal layers for a few days. Avoid the sun and sunscreen is imperative to use the net day and beyond to prevent burns and protect from photosensitivity.
Due to stimulation, some skin will react by increasing its oil production. This isn’t common, but it does happen in 5-10% of people. Cleansing the skin and using turbo tonik to help reduce sebum production is a great solution to prevent breakouts.
Who cannot receive this treatment?
It cannot be performed on those using accutane, retin A or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not recommended for sensitive skin and should not be performed on broken or irritated skin.
Is the treatment painful?
Some people feel some tingling, or a warm feeling. If this is the case let your skin care trainer know right away. We can neutralize the glycolic and either remove or dilute the treatment to get results, but will less irritation. Some people feel nothing at all. This all depends on the skin's natural pH and the condition of the skin at that time. Feeling the treatment does not mean it is working better.
