Ahhh summer time! Nothing beats the sunshine and heat! Time to kick back, relax and enjoy being outside … but this shouldn’t be a reason to slack on your skincare routine! Here are three simple steps to protecting your summer skin:

1. Exfoliate

A popular misconception is that we only need to exfoliate during the winter season when our skin is typically more dry and flakey. However, exfoliating during the summer is equally if not more effective for your skin!

Skin irritation and redness caused by heat, along with sweat and oil from humid weather can clog pores and cause congestion in the skin. This along with the increased use of air conditioning (super drying!), electric fans and increased showering, our skin can become extremely dull and dry over the summer. Between makeup, sweat from the heat and outdoor activities, your skin has a higher chance of getting congested. Regular exfoliation will ensure that any additional build up on your skin is taken care of!

Exfoliating your skin on a routine basis can help rejuvenate your skin by shedding dead and dull skin buildup, prevents congestion and clogged pores, and improves absorption of toners, serums and moisturizers. Additionally, exfoliating helps reduce hyperpigmentation, draws out excess oils and leaves your skin rejuvenated and brighter!

aha mask A tingling peppermint infused mask to loosen and lift dead, tired skin. Contains alpha hydroxy acid, a natural exfoliator, from apples and grapes. Also contains plant extracts and sea kelp algae to hydrate. Great for skin that reacts to scrubs. Apply a layer to clean skin, remove after 10-20 minutes. Can also be left on while you sleep and removed in the morning for extra hydration. Avoid the eye area. Use 1-3 times each week.

glow tonik This toner exfoliates your skin quickly and easily. Contains glycolic acid, malic acid, hyaluronic acid and plant extracts. Great for all skin types. On clean skin, with a cotton pad, swipe over your face and neck. Can also be sprayed directly on the skin. Used 2-3 times each week. Apply your favourite serum and/or moisturizer after.

skrubbin’ face wash Smooth and polish your way to softer skin with this triple powered exfoliating system and face wash in one! Soap-agent-free. Ground pumice polishes skin without damage. Contains hyaluronic acid, meadowfoam and sea kelp algae. Great for most skin types, however should be avoided if you have active blemishes, as it can move the bacteria around. Massage a small amount all over skin and neck for several seconds before rinsing thoroughly. Use daily on hearty skin or bi-weekly on sensitive skin.

face skrub A gentle but thorough face scrub with ground pumice to polish skin. Sea kelp algae and hyaluronic acid hydrate while comfrey root extract soothes. Great for those with drier skin types and visible flakiness. Massage in circular motions for 1-2 minutes, including the jawline, neck, nose and chin. Remove with water. Subsequent products applied will work more effectively. Use 1 - 3 times each week.

2. Hydrate

Hydrated skin is glowing skin! You may choose to switch to a lighter moisturizer as the weather warms up or an oil free, hydrating lotion. Our hydradew mask is a super simple and easy way to hydrate your skin. It’s a gel base, oil free, hydrating mask that sinks into the skin, like a drink of water.

There are many external and internal factors that contribute towards dehydration in skin. Some are:
  • High temperature
  • Humidity
  • Intense UV radiation
  • Long hot showers and baths
  • Dryness caused by air conditions
  • Drinking alcohol 😉


3. Sunscreen

You knew this one was coming! Protecting your skin from both UVA rays (causes wrinkles, sagging and signs of aging) and UVB rays (sunburns) are integral to maintaining your skin’s health. Using a broad spectrum SPF is a crucial step to your summer skin routine. UVA and UVB rays are harmful all year long but are especially damaging during summer months when exposure levels are higher thanks to all that time spent outside!
