skoah gives back

BC Children's HospitalVancouver, BC: In 2005, the skoah krew decided to focus their efforts on a special group of people - the parents of ill and terminally ill children. Skoah has partnered with the B.C. Children's Hospital. Skoah owners, Chris and Andrea Scott, created 'the Hopeful Hand' charity to benefit the parents and families of these children. With the monies raised, skoah has accomplished the following:

  • 2007 built a 'tranquility room' at the BC Children's Hospital
  • 2010 funded furniture for the otherwise empty Parent and Family Resource Centre
  • sent parents to out-of-town conferences related to their child's condition
  • funded community, parent and family education programs
  • 2013 funded five paid positions for the BC Children's Hospital

Another part of our Hopeful Hand project are the complimentary facialiscious facials we offer to the parents. Through our partnership with the BC Children's Hospital, we are able to invite one special parent down to skoah each month to experience a facial. We all need some downtime to relax and we all feel better after a facial. That's a feeling we'd like to share with a special group of people who never seem to take a single waking moment for themselves. We call it skin caring.

Janus AcademyCalgary, AB: We have partnered with Janus Academy in Calgary, AB, an independent, non-profit school that meets the unique educational needs of school-aged children with autism. Their mission is to maximize the potential of each child with autism by enabling academic success and facilitating lifelong community integration. Janus Academy strives to be an educational and community based leader by enhancing the lives of children with autism, as well as their families and the communities in which they live.

We have extended our Hopeful Hand project to the parents of students at Janus Academy. Each month, we invite select parents to enjoy a facial on us at one of our two Calgary stores. We also participate in the school’s fundraisers, offer all proceeds from the sale of our hand love lotion, and offer donations from special events to Janus Academy. For more information about Janus Academy, please contact Teresa Reynolds, Program Coordinator at Janus Academy:

In addition to the services we provide, skoah hosts an annual charity gala and silent auction in the fall as well as other events throughout the year. Contact us if you'd like details on upcoming Hopeful Hand events.

skoah donates 100% of the profits from the sale of our hand love lotion to a project called skoah's 'hopeful hand'.  The donated funds will help develop programs for coping with the difficult circumstances these parents face.  These include a yoga/relaxation studio and an education program for accessing help and community services.
